Its motto “Experience the variety!” refers to the enormous variety of landscapes along the climb. Bizarre rock formations, idyllic brooks, legendary moorlands, natural streams, different forest ecosystems and fantastic views make the route enormously varied and diverse.
The Hochwald holiday region is situated at the approach of the climb in Stages 25 and 26 where the Hunsrück route and the Trier route meet and the hiker has the choice of whether to go from Kell am See northwards to the Roman city of Trier, eastwards to the sometimes ruggedly romantic-sounding Hunsrück or westwards to Perl in the border triangle of Germany, Luxembourg and France.
Whichever tour you choose in the end the decision is always the correct one, because wherever you go you will find picturesque landscapes which have their very own charm. Your hosts at the various guest houses along the way also provide an all-round service package for hikers tackling the Saar-Hunsrück Climb and the dream loops. And if they are sometimes a fair way from the climb, they are happy to bring their guests to the start of the stage or pick hikers up in the evening and take them to their accommodation, where a delicious Hunsrück meal and a well-deserved rest awaits them.
