Premium hiking on the Saar-Hunsrück »Traumschleifen«

Experience the variety…

… exactly what you can do on the Saar-Hunsrück dream loops. The 111 circular hiking trails certified as premium hiking trails are a source of pride for the premium hiking region just as much as the Saar-Hunsrück Climb is. Manuel Andrack, currently Germany’s best-known hiker, has also developed an extensive 11-paragraph dream loop constitution explaining the philosophy behind the dream loops to hiking lovers – this can be read in the dream loops brochure, which is available free of charge from all local tourist information centres.

Four of the 111 dream loops in the Saar-Hunsrück region are in the Hochwald adventure region together with several others in the surrounding area – and the best thing about it is that all paths have the same quality standards, with uniform signing, hiker-friendly stop-off points near to or directly on the path, and free parking spaces available at the respective start points.

Greimerather Höhenweg

Greimerather Höhenweg

…was the first dream loop in Rhineland-Pfalz, which was set up in the Hochwald holiday region in 2010. The 13.4 km path connects the town of Greimerath in Rhineland-Pfalz with Bergen in Saarland, and captivates hikers with its variety of landscapes on route. Paths through the dense forest of the Hochwald are as much a feature as passages through small fields and meadows with enchanting views over an attractive hilly landscape. In the Panzbruch nature reserve you can watch Taurus cattle grazing up close from a viewing platform all year round.

Ruwer-Hochwald-Schleife Hentern

Ruwer-Hochwald-Schleife Hentern

The Ruwer-Hochwald-Schleife (loop) opens up a nature experience to hikers which could hardly be any more varied and impressive. This varied path is made up of large quartz rock formations, fantastic panoramic views over the forests of the Schwarzwalder Hochwald, idyllically placed villages and the wild-looking Ruwer river. Hikers here can enjoy an almost untouched landscape far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Schillinger Panoramaweg

Schillinger Panoramaweg

As the name may suggest, the Schillinger Panoramaweg offers hikers all manner of panoramic views over the highest points in the region, the Teufelskopf and the Rösterkopf. The 4-metre high observation tower by the side of the path gives an all-round view of the gently rolling hills that make up the Hochwald landscape. The Schillingen forest lake, the Fatima chapel and the reservoir in Kell am See are additional highlights on this hiking trail.

Hochwald-Acht Kell am See/Waldweiler

Hochwald-Acht Kell am See/Waldweiler

The “Hochwald Acht” (Hochwald Eight) links a number of tourist sites together. Mystical passages through the forest, ridges with awe-inspiring panoramic views, the village park and lake in Waldweiler, the reservoir in Kell am See, the source of the Ruwer and the wading pool are attractive destinations on route and invite the hiker to stay for a few hours, since with a length of 20 km the Hochwald Acht is one of the more demanding dream loops. Hikers who want to spread their enjoyment over two days can split the trail into two halves, because the route is a figure of eight with circles of roughly even size, which meet at the reservoir in Kell am See.
